Man who threatened security personnel in viral video arrested
Opoku Emmanuel was arrested on May 7, 2026, at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District. The arrest was part of a joint operation by the Inspector-General of Police's Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) and the Jacobu Police.
The suspect appeared in a viral video wearing a mask and threatening police officers and soldiers over the arrest of suspected armed robbers in the Ashanti Region. He was seen in the video warning security personnel not to arrest armed robbers and allegedly threatening to kill any officer who confronted him. In the earlier video, he claimed that any police officer or soldier sent to arrest armed robbers who encountered him without spiritual protection risked being shot and killed. In a later video, he rendered an apology, explaining that the statement was made as part of content creation and was never intended to threaten or harm anyone. The arrest is the latest in a series of cases being handled by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team involving threats made against public officials and state institutions through viral videos and social media posts.
Police say Opoku Emmanuel is currently in custody assisting with investigations and will soon be put before court. The current case is being handled under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020, the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, and the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008, which provide for criminal prosecution and fines for related offences. The police are yet to announce a date for Opoku Emmanuel's court appearance.
