Mahama appoints Zanetor, Mahama Ayariga as new Ministers, reassigns others
President John Dramani Mahama announced changes to his ministerial team on Friday, August 7, 2026, nominating two Members of Parliament for ministerial positions and reassigning two serving ministers to new portfolios. He submitted the names of the nominees to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval, acting in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution. Klottey Korle MP, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, taking over from the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has been nominated as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has been reassigned to head the Ministry of Defence. Ahmed Ibrahim, the current Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources. The changes are expected to take effect after Parliament completes the approval process. The statement announcing the reshuffle was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
