Landlords have right to enter tenants' rooms for inspection - Rent Commissioner
Frederick Opoku, Commissioner of Rent, hinted that landlords "have the right to enter tenants room for inspection." He stated this right allows landlords to enter "at any time they want for an inspection." Mr. Opoku spoke on Adom FM's Burning Issues.
Mr. Opoku said a landlord who wants to visit his or her tenant must give the tenant ample time. Landlords have said they want access to their tenants rooms for inspection to ensure their rooms are in order. They claim some tenants cause destruction to their room and they, the landlords, get to know after the tenant has moved. Landlords say they have to renovate the facility before it is rented to another person.
Mr. Opoku said one of the reasons a landlord can evict a tenant is when the tenant is causing destruction to the room he or she has rented, if the landlord has clear evidence.
