Kunka 24-hour model market: Chief calls for unity to sustain development
Nana Kwaku Ponkoh III, Traditional Leader of Kunka, called for unity among National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders, government officials, and residents to ensure the sustained development of the area when Faustilove Appiah Kannin, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Kunka. He stressed the need for cooperation among government officials, NDC executives, and the community to promote development, stating that development projects were meant to benefit everyone irrespective of political affiliation.
Nana Kwaku Ponkoh III also urged the contractor to ensure the market was constructed to required standards and the consultant to closely supervise the project. Faustilove Appiah Kannin explained Kunka was selected due to its required land size. The project falls under Model 1 of the government's 24-hour economy market initiative and is expected to be completed within 36 weeks, differing from the eight-month timeline of other models. Supporting infrastructure, including road networks and a drainage system, will complement the project.
