KTU confirms 7 of 10 arrested over cannabis-infused drinks, ice cream are its students

Koforidua Technical University (KTU) management visited ten persons arrested by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) over the alleged production and sale of cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream. This was revealed in a press release issued by the school, which confirmed that seven of the people arrested are students of the University. The visit took place at NACOC's national headquarters in Accra, after management made inquiries at various security installations. The arrests were made during the Students' Representative Council's Week celebrations on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

The University condemned the alleged act, stating, "The University condemns the alleged act of production and sale of cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream, said to have been committed without equivocation." It also informed the public that, pursuant to Article 15 (vi) of the Students' Handbook, it is an offense for students to involve themselves in such acts of misconduct. Parents of the affected students have been contacted and have identified their wards. As a precautionary measure, all SRC activities have been banned until further notice.
