Kotoko, Hearts of Oak leaders hold talks to boost Ghana football ahead of 2026/27 season

Asante Kotoko Executive Board Chairman James Osei Brown met with Hearts of Oak Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV in a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation between Ghana's two most successful football clubs. The meeting brought together leaders of the two traditional giants as they prepare for the 2026/27 Ghana football season. Discussions reportedly focused on ways the two clubs can work together to address some of the key commercial, administrative, and structural challenges affecting domestic football.

Areas identified for potential collaboration include attracting sponsorship deals, improving matchday security and safety standards, and supporting efforts to establish an independent Ghana Premier League entity. This engagement builds on previous cooperation, including their joint petition to the Ghana Football Association in February 2025 over concerns about stadium safety and matchday management. In the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign, Hearts of Oak finished third with 54 points, while Asante Kotoko finished eighth with 49 points.
