Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will deliver successful AFCON 2027 - Motsepe
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), expressed confidence on Wednesday in Johannesburg that the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 will be a major success when hosted in East Africa. He stated, "The AFCON in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will be enormously successful."
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are set to be the first joint hosts of the continental football showpiece in the region, collaborating to stage the tournament next year. Dr. Motsepe praised the commitment and efforts of the governments of the three host nations. He reflected on previous tournament preparations, highlighting the importance of maintaining confidence in African nations selected to host major competitions, despite possible difficulties during the build-up, citing the 2014 World Cup where portions of the stadium were not complete. He also mentioned not taking hosting rights from Cameroon in 2021.
