Kandau murder suspect Abu Tijani dies after arrest, Police Professional Standards Bureau launches investigation
Abu Tijani, alias Master One, 35, died on Saturday, July 25, 2026, hours after his arrest in Kandau, Upper West Region. The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. He was a key suspect in the murder of two youth in Kandau on November 23, 2025.
The Upper West Regional Police Command stated that Abu Tijani admitted involvement in the incident during interrogation and provided information on the alleged movement of the bodies. He led investigators to an initial burial location about three kilometres west of Wechau, but no remains were found. Abu Tijani told investigators that the bodies had been exhumed and moved across the Black Volta River into Burkina Faso by him and his accomplices. While being escorted to locate another alleged accomplice, he complained of a severe headache and was taken to the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital in Wa, where he was admitted at about 1:00pm and pronounced dead at about 4:37pm.
