Iran mobilises over 1 million troops ahead of possible US invasion - Report
The Islamic Republic of Iran has reportedly mobilised over one million fighters to fight the United States and Israeli armies in the event of an all-out war. According to a report by Al Jazeera, Iranian military sources said the over one million troops have been prepared for a ground battle with the US in the event that the US deploys ground troops in the ongoing war. Al Jazeera captioned a news card it shared on X: "BREAKING: More than one million fighters in Iran have been prepared for a ground battle with the US, reports Tasnim news agency, citing an Iranian military source."
The Pentagon has ordered approximately 2,000 soldiers from the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division to begin moving to the Middle East, after President Donald Trump said that his country was moving a "big force" towards Iran. The US has also deployed two Marine Expeditionary Units already en route from opposite sides of the Pacific. The first is the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group, centred on the America-class assault ship USS Tripoli and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). Ordered out of Sasebo, Japan, on March 13, the group transited the Strait of Malacca and was at Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territory by March 23. The second is the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, built around the Wasp-class assault ship USS Boxer and the 11th MEU, based in Southern California in the US. The group departed San Diego between March 19 and March 20.
