Incentivise alumni donations to public schools - Achimota OAA President urges GETFund, GRA, Education Ministry

Joel Edmund Nettey, President of the Old Achimotan Association (OAA), called on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Ministry of Education to introduce clear and tangible incentives for alumni, corporate organizations, and private individuals who invest in public schools. He made this call at the sod-cutting ceremony for a 250-bed dormitory block at Achimota School. Mr. Nettey stated, "Every single time we as old students go to hound our members to support our old schools, the question has been, 'But what's in it for me beyond the love for my alma mater?'"

The 250-bed dormitory block is being donated by old student and real estate developer, Ebenezer Saka Addo-Mensah, in partnership with GETFund under the Fund's new Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI). Mr. Nettey argued that a formal framework offering benefits such as tax rebates, discounts, or other recognized incentives could encourage more people to contribute to public education. He added that GETFund Administrator, Paul Adjei, backs the call for incentives.
