Ghana Police Service led an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of two key suspects linked to the deadly robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus. The attack occurred on April 12 on the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road, which claimed the life of footballer Dominic Frimpong. The suspects were traced to Atimatim in Kumasi on April 15.
The operation turned confrontational when the suspects, identified as Mohammed Ahmed, alias "I Can Do," and Bawa Gideon, attempted to flee and allegedly opened fire on officers. A search after the arrest led to the retrieval of a pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition, BB cartridges, pepper spray, a locally made firearm, desert boots, mobile phones and a black pullover. Mohammed Ahmed reportedly confessed to participating in multiple robbery attacks, including the Berekum Chelsea bus incident.
Mohammed Ahmed is currently receiving treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations. Three other suspects are still on the run as the manhunt continues.
