Hit-and-run leaves Hon Aponkye struggling to walk after multiple surgeries
Honourable Aponkye is struggling to walk following a hit-and-run accident at Angloga Junction in Kumasi. He recounted that he had traveled from Asewase to Kumasi to process documents validating his candidature for his political party ahead of the last elections. The accident occurred while he was attempting to board a commercial vehicle. He said, "I heard a sudden noise warning me of danger. Before I could react, the car was very close. I tried to dodge but fell in the middle of the road, and the car ran over my leg," adding that the driver failed to stop.
The collision left his leg severely crushed, causing extensive injuries and heavy bleeding. He was later referred to a bone specialist who has since been managing his condition. Honourable Aponkye underwent surgery at the Duayaw Nkwanta Government Hospital, where damaged bone tissue was removed and skin grafting performed to aid recovery. Doctors successfully saved his leg after multiple interventions.
A third and final surgery is expected in the coming weeks. Currently, Honourable Aponkye relies on crutches and assistance from others as he continues his recovery. He has appealed to well-meaning individuals to provide financial support to help him regain full mobility.
