Helicopter crash memorial: Sheikh Aremeyaw urges Ghanaians to leave lasting legacies

Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu urged Ghanaians to reflect on the purpose of life, the certainty of death, and the importance of leaving behind lasting legacies of service during the National Inter-Faith Memorial Service held in Accra on Thursday, August 6, to mark the first anniversary of a military helicopter crash. He stated, "We meet this morning in the stillness, silence and the momentous nature of this occasion to remember those whom we lost through a plane crash exactly a year ago. But as we do so, we also do so with a sense of equanimity and mission."

The memorial honored eight Ghanaians who died when the military helicopter crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region while on official duty to Obuasi. The victims were Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna; National Democratic Congress Vice-Chairman, Samuel Sarpong; Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
