Guard your freedom, don't sell it - Hopeson Adorye cautions against political insults

Hopeson Adorye, Director of Field Operations of the Unity Party, urged Ghanaians to exercise their constitutional right to freedom of expression responsibly, speaking on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem. He warned that abusing this right through insults and threats could have serious consequences. Mr. Adorye stated, "We have our freedom because the Constitution guarantees it, but if you don't protect it and decide to sell it, it comes at a cost."

He cautioned that individuals who deliberately misuse their freedom by engaging in abusive or threatening conduct should be prepared to face the consequences of their actions. Mr. Adorye cited the recent arrest of an NDC organiser over alleged social media misconduct, arguing that political supporters should allow the legal process to take its course. He maintained that the growing culture of insults on social media does not contribute to meaningful public discourse and should not be mistaken for political relevance. Mr. Adorye encouraged Ghanaians to hold leaders accountable by expressing their views respectfully and within the limits of the law.
