Govt moves to fix power outages as Jinapor engages ECG, NEDCo

Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, engaged key players in the power sector as part of efforts to address persistent outages in parts of the country. The meeting included officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), alongside other stakeholders, to assess the current state of the electricity distribution system and review strategies to tackle isolated power disruptions.

The discussions focused on operational challenges within the distribution chain, including overloaded transformers and ageing infrastructure, which continue to affect reliable service delivery. According to Mr. Jinapor, many of these challenges stem from years of underinvestment, despite rising electricity demand driven by urbanisation and expanding economic activity. Mr. Jinapor indicated that government is prioritising investments to modernise and expand power infrastructure, strengthen system capacity, and improve overall reliability across the country.

Mr. Jinapor also directed ECG and NEDCo to intensify their response to outages, stressing the need for a coordinated and efficient approach to fault resolution. The Minister emphasised that consumers deserve timely restoration of power and clear communication from service providers. He assured the public that government is working with urgency to address remaining pockets of outages and improve electricity supply nationwide.
