GNFS relocates bee swarm after student, teacher attacked at Vakpo Secondary Technical School
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) safely removed and relocated a bee swarm from the Vakpo Secondary Technical School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region after a student and a teacher were attacked and stung by the insects. Both victims received medical attention. Personnel from the Anfoega Fire Station were dispatched after receiving reports of the bee attack.
Preliminary assessments revealed the swarm had been nesting in the ceiling of the girls' dormitory for several years but became aggressive following weeding activities. The GNFS advised school authorities and the general public to promptly report bee infestations for professional assistance. It also urged institutions to restrict access to areas where bee swarms are detected and avoid disturbing them, stressing that early reporting and proper handling are key to preventing similar incidents.
