Ghanaians hold record GH¢40bn in mobile money wallets
Ghanaians held a record GH¢40 billion in mobile money wallets in June 2026, reflecting growing reliance on digital financial services. Latest payment systems data from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) shows mobile money float balances increased from GH¢28.9 billion in June 2025 to GH¢40 billion in June 2026, a year-on-year growth of more than 38 percent.
Registered mobile money accounts increased from 76.4 million in June 2025 to 84.6 million in June 2026, while active accounts rose to 26.4 million. Mobile money platforms recorded 954 million transactions worth GH¢492.9 billion in June alone. Registered agents exceeded one million for the first time, reaching 1.016 million, with active agents standing at 546,000.
