Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Ho Teaching Hospital deepen partnership to improve specialist healthcare

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) held a strategic meeting with the management of the Ho Teaching Hospital to strengthen collaboration, improve the implementation of the Fund's programmes, and expand access to specialised healthcare services for patients in the Volta Region. The engagement reviewed progress under the Fund's operations, including lessons from its successful 50-patient pilot programme, which provided financial support to patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions. Discussions also focused on improving the onboarding of patients onto the GMTFcare digital platform, streamlining claims processing and reimbursement systems, and addressing operational challenges as the programme expands nationwide.

A key aspect of the meeting centered on practical steps towards implementing President John Dramani Mahama's pledge to establish a Cardiology Centre in the Volta Region. Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, reaffirmed the Trust Fund's commitment to building strong partnerships and expressed appreciation to Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, for donating an additional three months of his salary to support the construction of the proposed cardiology center. Dr. Hintermann Mbroh, Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, assured the Trust Fund of the hospital's full support in advancing its programmes and the proposed cardiology center.
