GFA demands justice over death of Dominic Frimpong
Dominic Frimpong died after a violent armed robbery attack on Sunday night. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called for swift justice following the death. Frimpong was a Berekum Chelsea striker on loan from Aduana FC.
The team bus was ambushed on the Bibiani-Goaso road as the squad returned from their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex, which ended in a 1-0 defeat. Armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle, forcing players and officials of Berekum Chelsea to abandon the bus. Several members of the travelling party sustained injuries. The injured striker was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was later pronounced dead on arrival. The GFA expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as "a devastating blow not only to Berekum Chelsea but to the entire Ghanaian football community." The Ghana FA said, "This tragic incident is not only a huge loss to Berekum Chelsea but also to Ghana football as a whole."
The Association said it is working closely with Berekum Chelsea, the Ghana Police Service, and other relevant authorities as investigations continue. The GFA urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice, adding that it is in constant communication with the club and relevant authorities as probes continue. The incident has reignited longstanding concerns over player safety and security during league travel.
