GES mourns two BECE candidates killed in accident in Upper West
Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of two BECE candidates on Sunday, May 3, in the Upper West Region. The candidates, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were pupils of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School.
The two students were involved in a crash while traveling on a motorcycle to their examination center in Wa. They were going to join their colleagues from Charia. The accident was reportedly due to the unavailability of an examination centre in their community. Taufii Ibrahim was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby health facility, while Abdul Khalid later died on Monday afternoon. The Head of Public Affairs, Daniel Fenyi, signed a statement in which GES extended condolences to the families of the deceased, their school, and fellow students. The statement said, "We are deeply saddened that these young lives, full of promise and potential, have been cut short under such distressing circumstances," and "Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time."
The Ghana Education Service indicated that it will continue to work with relevant authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident and explore ways to prevent similar incidents in the future. The statement concluded, "May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace."
