GAF launches Burma Camp redevelopment project
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) launched the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project in Accra to replace ageing colonial-era infrastructure with modern facilities. Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, Deputy Minister for Defence, stated the initiative was "not merely about constructing buildings but restoring dignity to military personnel and their families." He also said, "Today we are not only breaking ground on buildings; we are breaking ground on hope, dignity and a better future for every soldier, every officer and every military family."
The project is part of the Government's agenda to modernise defence infrastructure, improve accommodation, and strengthen operational effectiveness through public-private partnerships. Mr. Genfi noted that many military families occupy residential buildings that have exceeded their intended lifespan. He mentioned the Government's commitment to addressing accommodation challenges through this project, the ongoing 10,000 Housing Units Programme, and other initiatives under the "Resetting Ghana Agenda." A committee has been inaugurated to develop a Ghana Armed Forces Home Ownership Policy and Scheme to provide personnel with pathways to home ownership before retirement.
