Four arrested over Wassa Akropong gold robbery, police hunt remaining suspect
The Western Central Regional Police Command arrested four suspected members of a robbery syndicate believed to be linked to a violent gold robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area. The arrests followed investigations into a robbery incident reported on March 11, 2026, involving a gold dealer, Mr. Orls Oduro, who was attacked while returning home after closing his business. The robbers made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, gold weighing seven pounds and six matches valued at GH¢94,530, as well as two mobile phones (an iPhone XR and a Tecno Spark 12).
The four suspects, Kwabena Amuah (25), Mohammed Nasir (28), Samuel Agyei (24), and Kofi Gyasi (26), were arrested at Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026. They were arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, and have been remanded into police custody. Efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspect identified as Agogo, who remains at large. The police have assured residents that they remain committed to fighting violent crimes.
