Floods engulf Tse Addo communities as residents call for urgent intervention
Tse Addo communities were engulfed by floods on Monday after hours of torrential rainfall in the Greater Accra Region. This left hundreds of residents stranded, damaged homes and businesses, and disrupted vehicular and pedestrian movement. Worst-hit areas included Zion, Safari Homes, and adjoining communities, where floodwaters rendered several roads impassable. The flooding inundated residential compounds, shops, and commercial establishments, compelling some families to evacuate.
Residents attributed the situation to the overflow of the Kpeshie Lagoon, heavily silted and choked drainage channels, inadequate drainage infrastructure, and increasing unplanned developments. Several walls reportedly collapsed under the pressure of the floodwaters. Public transport services were severely disrupted as commercial vehicles were unable to navigate the flooded streets. The flooding compounded traffic congestion across several parts of Accra.
