Five arrested as Police intercept suspected narcotics in Upper West
The Ghana Police Service seized suspected narcotics and arrested multiple individuals following intensified operations in the Upper West Region over the past four weeks. The operations targeted drug trafficking and abuse across several districts.
Major interceptions occurred in Eremon in the Lawra District, the Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, and Hamile in the Lambussie District. Officers recovered a total of 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight additional consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. On April 3, 2026, a patrol team stopped a Toyota Corolla taxi at Eremon in the Lawra District and uncovered 140 compressed slabs of suspected narcotics, resulting in the arrest of Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame. On April 1, 2026, police at the Wa-Loho barrier intercepted a Royal VVIP bus travelling from Wa to Jirapa, recovering 51 compressed slabs, and arrested Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee. Investigations indicate that most consignments were being transported northwards toward Hamile for onward delivery. The Police have warned transport operators and unions to remain vigilant and avoid allowing their vehicles to be used for illegal activities, cautioning that such vehicles could be seized and owners held legally accountable.
All suspects are currently under investigation and are expected to face prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been impounded. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on drug-related offences and maintaining security across the region.
