Fire destroys part of late Murtala Mohammed's family home in Tamale
Murtala Mohammed's family home in Tamale was partially destroyed by fire on Wednesday, August 5. The incident damaged nine of the building's 17 rooms. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 3:29 p.m., with firefighters arriving at the scene eight minutes later, at 3:37 p.m.
Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Hudu Baba, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, stated that two schoolchildren trapped in one of the rooms were successfully rescued. Firefighters brought the fire under control, preventing its spread to other sections of the house. No fatalities or injuries were reported. Investigations have commenced to determine the cause and full extent of the damage. Murtala Mohammed was among eight people who died in an August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
