Ex-Ghana Otto Addo earns huge appointment at FIFA ahead of 2026 World Cup
Otto Addo has been appointed to FIFA's Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The panel will analyze tactical trends, match statistics, set-piece strategies and overall team performances throughout the tournament. The Technical Study Group also plays a key role in selecting winners of several individual awards, including the Golden Ball and Golden Boot. Addo, who previously worked as a talent coach at Borussia Dortmund, joins an experienced group of football figures assembled by FIFA. The team includes former Sweden goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler, ex-USA international Tobin Heath, former Germany and United States coach Jürgen Klinsmann, Welsh coach Jayne Ludlow, Northern Irish manager Michael O'Neill, former Brazil midfielder Gilberto Silva, Danish coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, former Costa Rica striker Paulo Wanchope, Dutch football legend Aron Winter and former Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta.
The appointment comes only months after Addo's departure as head coach of Ghana's senior national team, the Black Stars, despite successfully leading the country to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 50-year-old was relieved of his duties after a series of poor results in international friendlies, including a 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany. Following his exit, the Ghana Football Association appointed veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz on a short-term contract ahead of the World Cup. Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
