Ejisu Assembly members suspend plans to remove MCE

Ejisu Municipal Assembly members have suspended plans to initiate a vote of no confidence against Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante following an intervention by President John Dramani Mahama. The Assembly Members had earlier issued the MCE a one-week ultimatum to resign or face removal from office, citing serious administrative challenges under her leadership. The deadline expired on Friday, July 31, but no further action was taken after President Mahama constituted a committee to investigate the concerns.

The committee, chaired by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has been tasked with conducting a fact-finding exercise into the allegations against the MCE. George Kuntu Blankson, Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area and spokesperson for the aggrieved members, stated, "We are waiting on the President to act on our concerns this month. By the end of this month, if the President grants our wish, we will be satisfied. But if we do not hear anything by then, they will hear from us." Mr. Blankson cautioned that the Assembly Members would reconsider their position if their concerns were not addressed by the end of the month.
