ECOWAS approves US$250,000 donation for Ghana flood victims
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister, announced that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has approved a donation of US$250,000, equivalent to about GH¢3 million, to support victims of recent floods in Ghana. He disclosed this in a Facebook post, stating, "I wish to announce, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, that the Foreign Ministry has just been notified by ECOWAS that they have decided to donate US$250,000.00 (about GH¢3 million) to Ghana for victims of the recent devastating floods."
Mr. Ablakwa assured the public that the full amount would be transferred to appropriate authorities immediately after the funds are received by the ministry. The Government of Ghana conveyed appreciation to ECOWAS for their solidarity and African compassion. The donation follows widespread flooding that affected several communities, displacing many people, destroying homes and property, and increasing the need for humanitarian assistance. The ECOWAS contribution is expected to bolster ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
