ECG to complete critical Power upgrade works in June
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced on Friday, May 29, that upgrade works are expected to be completed by June 5, 2026, on the transmission corridor linking the KNUST Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation, as well as the line from Kaase to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point. The ECG assured residents and businesses in the Greater Kumasi area of a more stable and reliable electricity supply as major upgrades to key sub-transmission lines approach completion.
The company stated that the project forms part of efforts to improve electricity reliability, enhance voltage quality and strengthen the resilience of the power network across the Ashanti Region. The works involve replacing ageing and weak conductors with larger 400 square millimetre cables, upgrading from the existing 265 square millimetre conductors. Communities including Kaase, Kuntenase, Sewua, Bekwai and several surrounding areas stand to benefit significantly from the project once it is completed.
The ECG further noted that the upgrade will strengthen the sub-transmission link between the Kumasi 1 (K1) and Kumasi 2 (K2) Bulk Supply Points, improving the stability, flexibility and efficiency of electricity distribution within the region. The company expressed confidence that the investment will contribute to a more robust power delivery system capable of meeting the growing electricity demand in Greater Kumasi and its adjoining communities.
