ECG intensifies public education on power outages in Ashanti Region
ECG has intensified efforts to improve public understanding of power outages in the Ashanti Region. ECG has initiated an enhanced real-time communication across multiple platforms to rebuild consumer confidence and address public concerns about delays in power restoration. ECG's position follows its focus on strengthening both system reliability and stakeholder engagement as part of its long-term service delivery strategy.
Power supply in the region operates on two interconnected systems: sub-transmission and distribution. Faults on the high-voltage sub-transmission network can affect several communities and require complex restoration processes, while distribution faults are usually localized and resolved more quickly. ECG has broadened its communication channels to include radio stations, information centres, mainstream media, stakeholder platforms, social media, and WhatsApp platforms for direct updates to customers and stakeholders. The programme seeks to bridge the information gap that has often contributed to frustration among electricity consumers during outages.
Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, Acting Director of Communications at ECG emphasized that "We recognize that uncertainty during outages can be frustrating. That is why we are prioritizing real-time communication across all platforms to keep our customers informed and assured." Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, General Manager of Ashanti Sub-Transmission, highlighted the lessons from recent outages: "Recent outages affecting parts of Kumasi and surrounding districts have underscored the importance of timely communication to keep customers adequately informed." ECG is committed to improving transparency while ensuring efficient and safe restoration of power supply.
