Dr. Gideon Boako breaks ground for modern maternity ward at Duayaw-Nkwanta Health Center
Dr. Gideon Boako broke ground for the construction of a multipurpose maternity ward at the Duayaw-Nkwanta Health Center. The event took place on Friday, April 3. Dr. Boako reiterated his commitment to building a holistic healthcare system that ensures dignity and a high quality of life for his constituents.
Dr. Boako noted that upon his election, he found much of the center's infrastructure and equipment to be obsolete. The new facility is his contribution toward transforming the center into a modern medical hub that will significantly improve the experience of childbirth for mothers and their families. The facility was recently named the best health center in the Ahafo Region during the 2025 annual health performance review. The new ward will include dedicated changing and shower rooms for expectant mothers, a sterilization room for surgical instruments, and a sluice room for clinical waste management. It will also feature a duty station and records area for midwives, as well as a comfortable waiting area for families.
Yaw Owusu, in charge of the Duayaw-Nkwanta Health Center, expressed gratitude to Dr. Boako for the timely intervention. He noted that the new facility would alleviate the pressure on their existing, overstretched resources and motivated the staff to continue providing excellent service. Since taking office, Dr. Boako has sponsored 40 constituents to study medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and launched a free eye screening and surgery initiative that has already provided 95 cataract surgeries.
