Deliver value for money or face sanctions - GETFund warns contractors

Paul Adjei, Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), issued a warning to contractors executing projects under the Fund over the weekend. Mr. Adjei stressed that the Fund will not tolerate substandard work, cautioning that any contractor found delivering shoddy projects would face strict consequences. He said, "Ghanaian taxpayers make significant sacrifices before earning their income, and it is from these same resources that government funds development projects. They therefore deserve nothing short of quality work."

Mr. Adjei expressed concern over the declining quality of some recently completed projects, noting that contractors must shift their focus from excessive profit-making to delivering durable and impactful infrastructure. He disclosed that he has constituted a special strategic monitoring team tasked with inspecting all ongoing and completed GETFund projects nationwide. Mr. Adjei further highlighted that the GETFund Scholarship Scheme remains accessible to all Ghanaians, urging especially students from rural and underserved communities to take advantage of the opportunity.

As part of broader institutional reforms, the Administrator announced the establishment of a dedicated Corporate Affairs department within GETFund to improve public engagement and information dissemination. The team will ensure strict compliance with project specifications and delivery standards, warning that any contractor who fails to meet the required benchmarks will face appropriate sanctions. He also encouraged journalists to actively engage with the Fund, visit its offices, and seek accurate information to promote informed reporting on its activities.
