'Cock-and-bull story' - Kpebu says Wontumi's reclamation defence fell apart
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, was found guilty of illegal mining offences and sentenced to 20 years in prison by the High Court in Accra in the Samreboi mining concession case. Kpebu said the conviction was driven by the weakness of Wontumi's own defence. Evidence showed Akonta Mining, linked to Wontumi, had been granted the concession, making him responsible for activities there. Wontumi admitted to allowing Henry Okum to operate on the concession without required ministerial approval, which Kpebu stated was a crime. Kpebu rejected suggestions that the absence of written permission weakened the prosecution's case.
