CID Cracks Down on Alleged Online Sex Abuse Network; Entrepreneur Arrested Over Intimate Videos
Joshua Kojo Anani Buati, a 36-year-old entrepreneur, was arrested on May 6, 2026, during a joint intelligence-led operation involving the CID Cybercrime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). The arrest was made over allegations of drugging women, sexually abusing them and distributing intimate videos online without their consent. CID Director-General Lydia Yaako Donkor said investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly operated a Telegram platform known as "VIP Sleep Fetish 2025."
According to the police, the suspect targeted unsuspecting women at nightclubs, where he allegedly seduced and drugged them using sedatives including alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax. "The suspect is alleged to have sexually assaulted victims, recorded the acts and shared the videos and images online without the victims' consent," COP Donkor stated. A search conducted during the arrest led to the retrieval of several electronic devices and suspected substances, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop and an iSave device. Police also recovered empty sachets believed to have contained alprazolam and midazolam pills. The CID said all electronic devices retrieved from the suspect are undergoing digital forensic examination, while the substances recovered have been prepared for analysis by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). COP Donkor stressed that "The Ghana Police Service reiterates its firm commitment to tackling online sexual exploitation in all its forms and urges members of the public to report suspected cases through approved reporting channels."
The suspect has since been arraigned before court while investigations continue.
