CAF Appeal Board Awards AFCON 2025 Final to Morocco After Senegal Forfeit
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Appeal Board awarded the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 final to Morocco after ruling that Senegal forfeited the match. The Appeal Board's decision, based on Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, overturned an earlier ruling by the CAF Disciplinary Board following an appeal by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF). CAF confirmed that the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) violated Article 82, resulting in the final being recorded as a 3-0 victory for Morocco.
The Appeal Board also issued sanctions in addition to the forfeiture. Ismaël Saibari of Morocco was found guilty of misconduct and received a reduced punishment of a two-match suspension, with one match suspended, and had a previously imposed $100,000 fine overturned. The FRMF was held responsible for the conduct of ball boys, leading to a reduced fine of $50,000.
However, a separate $100,000 fine relating to interference around the VAR review area was upheld in full. A fine linked to a laser incident was reduced to $10,000. All other appeals and requests for relief were dismissed by the CAF Appeal Board.
