Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey: The soldier leading Ghana's war on narcotics
Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey assumed the role of Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) with immediate effect. President John Dramani Mahama appointed Gen. Mantey to bring "operational leadership, intelligence expertise and international security experience" to NACOC.
Brigadier General Mantey is a senior officer of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) with over 30 years of service. His career included roles such as Deputy Support Services Commander and Chief Coordinator at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC). His last portfolio before NACOC was Military Adviser to the Chief of Staff at the Presidency of Ghana. He served in several UN and regional missions, including UNIFIL in Lebanon, ECOMOG in Liberia, MINURSO in Western Sahara, and ONUCI in Côte d'Ivoire, and as Force Chief of Operations with the United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
