August 6 demo date was not deliberate; NDC should stop politicising helicopter crash anniversary - Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, rejected claims on Wednesday, August 5, in an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) deliberately chose August 6 for a planned demonstration to disregard the first anniversary of a helicopter crash that claimed eight lives. He stated, "We chose our date way earlier. In fact, before we even heard that… it was only yesterday or so when I received calls that the one-year anniversary of our beloved brothers, friends and fathers who died is tomorrow." He added that the NPP had not been invited to the anniversary, though invitations had been sent to some people.

Mr. Nana Boakye accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of applying a double standard, citing previous national tragedies where he said government activities continued despite loss of lives. He referenced a "serious bloodshed" where over 40 people were lost, and the President held a Thanksgiving service the following day. He also mentioned a fatal accident on the Kumasi road that claimed dozens of lives. According to Mr. Nana Boakye, the NPP's demonstration is focused on defending Ghana's democracy and addressing what the party considers threats to democratic governance under President Mahama.
