Armed robbers who forced victims to surrender MoMo PINs at machete point arrested in Wa; one dies, two on the run
The Upper West Regional Police Command arrested five suspects believed to be members of an armed robbery syndicate on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, after months of intelligence-led operations. One suspect, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52, sustained injuries during the operation and died on arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. The police stated that the circumstances surrounding his injuries were not immediately clear. The syndicate is accused of attacking victims with machetes, injuring them, and forcing them to disclose Mobile Money PINs, subsequently transferring money from their accounts.
Investigations have linked the syndicate to incidents at Kpenateng Junction on August 1, Kulkpara Dapoha on June 19, Kpenateng Community on June 15, and Piisi Dapoha on March 27. An incident dated May 23 was also listed, though the location was unclear. Police estimate that about GH¢22,070 in cash was stolen directly from victims, while another GH¢3,274 was allegedly transferred through Mobile Money accounts. Seven mobile phones recovered from the suspects are being examined. The arrested suspects, apart from the deceased, are Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Iddrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; and Zakaria Brigi, 21.
