Armed robbers attack two VIP JEOUN buses, five injured
Armed robbers attacked two VIP JEOUN buses, injuring five people, in two separate incidents within two hours on Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31. The first and more serious attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, between Apedwa Junction, Nkronso, Akooko, and Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region, where robbers used a vehicle to block the highway, trapping three passenger coaches before launching what VIP JEOUN described as a coordinated attack. A VIP JEOUN coach traveling from Accra to Sunyani came under heavy gunfire, leaving the driver, his mate, and three passengers with gunshot wounds.
The injured victims were transported to a hospital, with the driver later referred to the 37 Military Hospital. Police officers from the Suhum Division of the Eastern South Regional Police Command responded to a distress call, engaged the robbers in a gun battle, and forced them to retreat. Barely two hours later, at about 1:00 a.m. on Friday, another VIP JEOUN coach traveling on the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway was attacked at Potrikrom, where attackers fired at the vehicle, damaging its windscreen. An armed security escort returned fire, forcing the robbers to flee. VIP JEOUN reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and said it would continue working with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies.
