Afram Plains youth rally behind Mahama's Farmers' Service Centre initiative
John Dramani Mahama performed a sod-cutting ceremony on Friday, March 20, at Takoratwene. He was joined by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku. The ceremony was for the establishment of the first Farmers' Service Centre in the Kwahu Afram Plains South Constituency of the Eastern region.
The Concerned Youth of Afram Plains issued a press statement on Saturday, March 21, describing the initiative as a transformative opportunity for agriculture and livelihoods. The proposed centre is expected to provide farmers with access to modern farming equipment, extension services, quality inputs, training, and market opportunities. Michael Yeboah, the President of the Concerned Youth of Afram Plains, lauded the initiative and commended the government for selecting Kwahu Afram Plains South as the location for the pilot project. He said the development holds the potential to unlock opportunities for young people in agriculture, reduce unemployment, and stimulate local economic growth.
Michael Yeboah pledged to mobilise the youth across the constituency to actively support the implementation and sustainability of the project. He noted, "We are ready to organise and engage the youth to take full advantage of this opportunity and contribute meaningfully to its success." The youth group believes the centre will enhance productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and empower a new generation of agripreneurs.
