Afenyo-Markin joins NPP's 'Democracy Under Attack' demo [Video]

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, arrived at the Supreme Court to join NPP supporters as the party embarked on its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration, with a petition to be presented at the Jubilee House. The protest, organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), aims to draw attention to what the party describes as threats to Ghana's democratic governance, including concerns over freedom of expression, the treatment of opposition voices, alleged selective justice, and perceived attempts to undermine state institutions.

The demonstration began at the Supreme Court and is expected to end at the Jubilee House, where party leaders will present a petition outlining their concerns. The NPP urged supporters to participate under the hashtags #DemocracyUnderAttack, #SaveGhanaNow, and #SayNoToStateCapture, insisting the protest is intended to defend civil liberties, uphold the rule of law, and promote democratic accountability. The government, however, rejected allegations that it is targeting political opponents, maintaining that state institutions operate independently and that all law enforcement actions are carried out in accordance with due process.
