Adansi Asokwa DCE calls for regular communal labour to prevent disease outbreaks

Albert Dakurah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, called on residents to participate regularly in communal labour to improve sanitation and prevent disease outbreaks. He made this call during a district-led clean-up exercise at Kojo Nkwanta, where residents and officials desilted and cleared choked gutters. Mr. Dakurah urged assembly members to organise regular clean-up exercises in their communities, suggesting a fortnightly schedule to sustain sanitation improvements. He also reminded residents of the district's sanitation by-laws, which prohibit indiscriminate disposal of waste and non-participation in organised communal sanitation exercises.

Some residents of Kojo Nkwanta raised concerns about portions of the drainage system, stating that poor construction in some areas has resulted in stagnant water. They said this stagnant water could become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and increase the risk of disease outbreaks if not addressed. Residents living close to the affected areas welcomed the assembly's intervention and appealed for the clean-up exercises to be organised regularly. They also called on the district assembly to provide additional waste bins to encourage proper waste disposal and reduce indiscriminate dumping in the community.
