Accra Floods: Elderly man found dead along Alajo railway
An elderly man, believed to be in his 60s, was found dead along the railway line at Alajo following heavy rains and flooding in parts of Accra on Monday. Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) Alex King Nartey of the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stated that preliminary observations suggest the deceased was washed to the location by the floodwaters. Residents near the railway line were unable to identify the man and told emergency personnel they did not know where he had come from.
The body remained at the scene awaiting the arrival of police officers with a body bag to convey it to the mortuary for preservation and further investigations. The flooding caused widespread destruction across several communities, damaging vehicles, homes, and other properties. In Alajo, several vehicles were submerged and properties destroyed after floodwaters inundated large sections of the community. Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the damage, while emergency response teams remain on the ground assisting affected residents.
