5 feared dead in early-morning crash at Ofankor Barrier
Five people are feared dead following a violent collision between a tipper truck and a Sprinter bus at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Thursday, August 13. The early morning crash left the Sprinter severely damaged and several passengers trapped inside the wreckage. ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stated that the rescue team was working to extricate victims from the mangled vehicle and transport those with serious injuries to medical facilities.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene to free those trapped and provide immediate assistance to survivors. A female victim whose legs were reportedly severed in the collision was among those evacuated from the scene by ambulance. The GNFS described the situation as volatile as its personnel continued efforts to bring the rescue operation under control, noting that the final casualty figure had not yet been established. The accident has also affected traffic flow along the highway, with a section of the road temporarily restricted to allow emergency crews to work. The GNFS has advised motorists travelling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra to use the outer lane, approach the area with extreme caution and give way to emergency responders as rescue and clearance operations continue.
