4 individuals linked to PDS arrested over suspected ECG funds transfer - Kwakye Ofosu
Kwakye Ofosu claimed that four individuals linked to Power Distribution Services (PDS) were arrested last week by the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI). The arrests were made over the suspected transfer of funds believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The individuals were identified as Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor, and Justice Menka-Premoh. According to Mr. Kwakye, the arrests were "part of investigations into the transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to ECG." PDS took over the operations of ECG on March 1, 2019, under a 20-year concession agreement. The deal collapsed after government investigations found that key payment guarantees were fraudulent. Ghana lost about $190 million in compact funding from the Millennium Challenge Corporation due to the termination of the concession.
The individuals have since been granted bail while investigations continue. In November 2025, the London Court of International Arbitration dismissed all of PDS's claims.
