34 Arrested Over Funsi Chieftaincy Killings
34 suspects were arrested following the killing of three young men in a shooting incident. The incident took place in Funsi in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region. The Upper West Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests.
The violence is linked to the protracted chieftaincy dispute in Funsi. On the night of May 22, 2026, police received information that two people had been shot dead. The deceased were identified as 37-year-old Fufulu Nandugu and 22-year-old Yussif Samahan. A third victim, 20-year-old Amadu Lukman, was also found dead. A shotgun, bow and arrows, gunpowder, spent cartridges, talisman-embedded smocks and a medallion were retrieved.
All the suspects and exhibits have been transported to Wa to assist with investigations. The Police Administration expressed condolences and assured the public that all persons responsible would be brought to justice. The Command has appealed to residents to remain calm. Intensified patrols and additional security interventions have been deployed within the community.
