32 evacuated Ghanaians arrive home from South Africa as government begins second phase of evacuation
Thirty-two evacuated Ghanaians arrived home from South Africa on Sunday, July 26, at the Accra International Airport. This group, including children, is part of the second phase of the government's ongoing evacuation exercise. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that the government has introduced a reintegration package, with each evacuee receiving GH¢5,500 as a reintegration grant, in addition to travel and transportation support.
The evacuation program assists Ghanaians who chose to return home due to renewed concerns over xenophobic attacks and violence targeting foreign nationals in South Africa. The government expects to evacuate about 1,000 more Ghanaians during this phase of the operation. The intervention aims to ensure the safe, dignified, and successful reintegration of the returnees into Ghanaian society.
