3 suspects arrested in Akatsi in robbery crackdown
The Ghana Police Service arrested three suspects on April 21, 2026 in Akatsi and its surrounding areas. The suspects were involved in a series of recent robberies. The operation was led by the Special Operations Assistant (SOA) to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and resulted in the retrieval of weapons and ammunition. Enoch Adoglo was apprehended at Gavekope, a village near Akatsi. Cephas Aniwaa, a blacksmith, was arrested on the outskirts of Gavekope. David Adzinu was also arrested during the operation.
A search of the suspects and their possessions yielded seven single-barrel rifles, five locally manufactured pistols, one revolver, sixty-four rounds of ACP ammunition, eleven rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four rounds of 7.62 x 51 ammunition, four live BB cartridges, eighteen spent BB cartridges, three mobile phones, and winding tools. Cephas Aniwaa is believed to be the primary supplier of weapons to the suspects and is suspected of manufacturing and providing firearms used in the robberies. The police gathered further intelligence that led them to the outskirts of Gavekope, where they arrested Cephas Aniwaa.
Further investigations have led police to identify Mensah Kedzi as a key suspect in the robberies, including a major heist that took place on April 3, 2026. Kedzi is currently on the run, along with other accomplices such as Akakpo, an ex-convict, and Ageh. Authorities are continuing to pursue these individuals.
