2026 WC: Two goalkeepers likely to be chopped from Black Stars' final squad - Sports Minister
Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, says the Black Stars are fully prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He indicated that two players are expected to be dropped from the current provisional squad, likely from the goalkeeping department.
Carlos Queiroz, head coach, has named a 28-man provisional list that includes five goalkeepers: Benjamin Asare, Solomon Agbasi, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Joseph Annag and Paul Reverson. Mr. Adams said "The coach will have to drop two players from the 28 preliminary players he has called up." He also added, "The cut of the Black Stars squad from 28 to 26 is likely to come from the goalkeeping unit. They will surely take a cut." The Black Stars are making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
The final 26-man squad will be announced today, Monday, June 1, before Ghana faces Wales in a pre-tournament friendly on June 2 at the Cardiff City Stadium. Ghana will wrap up their preparations with a final friendly against Jamaica on June 10. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, face England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and complete the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
